Snow, Ice, and Goodbyes

So here's post #2. I'm not in Mexico yet, but the ridiculously comfy couch in my common room is an adventure, I guess.

It's now Tuesday night, and somehow Thursday, the day I leave Colby and say goodbye to everyone has snuck up on me WAY faster than I intended. No, I haven't started packing yet, and no, I'm not ready to say goodbye. The broomball semi-finals were tonight, and my team (the Rotting Pumpkins) stopped being undefeated. It was still an amazing season, and I loved playing with them. Even though we didn't get to iPlay t-shirt glory (the Colby intramural champions for each sport get much-coveted t-shirts,) I'm going to count it as a personal victory that none of the 4 goals that were scored on us this season came while I was on the ice. (And the fact that only 4 goals were scored on us all season is pretty impressive as well...)

I haven't started packing yet, despite the fact that I'm taking my GIS final tomorrow and am theoretically leaving campus on Thursday. It won't take too much time to pack, but the emotional strain of living in a partially-packed room is more than I feel like dealing with at the moment. I know that the minute I get to Mexico, I'll have the time of my life (que Dirty Dancing music...) and will have a ton of AMAZING experiences to write about in this blog, take pictures of with my new camera, and generally enjoy for the rest of my life. I can't wait to get there and meet all of the people on my trip and start exploring, but from now until I leave on Sunday is going to be tough. Saying goodbye to Colby, which I love so much, and the people here, who I love even more, is going to be hard. Then I get to go home and say goodbye to everyone there, which is going to be just as much fun. (I wish sarcasm worked better in written form.) I might just run away to avoid all these goodbyes.

Anyways, that's what's going on in Maine. Colby hockey's White Mules beat the Bowdoin Polar Bears tonight. (Best cheer from the crowd: GLOBAL WARMING.) That was fun. Tomorrow night is my last night on campus, and I'm planning on spending as much time as possible with my friends and not wasting too much time on sleep. (Don't worry mom, I'll get enough to drive home safely.)

Adios!

I Have a Blog!

Hey Everyone,

Welcome to my abroad blog! I'm still sitting in my room at Colby, which obviously doesn't count as abroad, but I'll be in Mexico so soon that I figure I'd better get this set up now before I forget. This will be the place where I can let everyone know what I'm doing in Baja, Mexico for the next semester, even with limited time on the computer.

For those of you who don't know, I leave February 1st for a semester in Puerto San Carlos, Mexico, on the Pacific coast of Baja California. I'm going with the School for Field Studies, and will be studying marine mammal and coastal ecosystem conservation. (More info and pictures of the site here: http://www.fieldstudies.org/pages/4254_mexico_semester.cfm)

I'm going to try to post once a week, and will hopefully either post photos (lots of them, probably with a new camera!) or a link to photos on Picasa or something.

I'll try to send and reply to e-mails, but commenting on the blog is a sure way that I'll see things :-)

Oh! I also am kind of a huge fan of snail mail: So SEND IT! But no packages please, just letters, 'cause apparently Mexican customs is tough on packages...
Send things to:

Me :-)

Puerto San Carlos, BCS

Thanks!
